An ecological art residency is a unique program that brings together artists, craft professional, and environmental enthusiasts to explore the intersection of art, environmental sustainability, cultural heritage, and archaeological conservation. During the residency, participants focus on creating art that addresses ecological issues, promotes environmental awareness, and fosters a deeper connection with nature, culture, and heritage.
Our residency is hosted in the beautiful city of Aurangabad, India. Aurangabad is renowned for its rich cultural heritage and archaeological sites, including the iconic Ellora and Ajanta Caves. The proximity to these historical treasures adds an extra layer of inspiration to the residency experience.
While our program encourages a broad exploration of environmental themes, we also focus on the preservation of cultural heritage, archeology and conservation of the world heritage sites of Ajanta & Ellora, including the traditional arts of Paithani weaving and Himroo weaving. Artists, textile designers, and illustrators are encouraged to incorporate these themes into their projects, creating a meaningful dialogue between art, environment, culture, history, and textiles.
The duration of the residency in Aurangabad typically ranges from two weeks to one month, providing artists, textile designers, and illustrators with ample time to immerse themselves in the creative process, engage with the environment, and explore the region's cultural and archaeological significance.
The residency not only generates art that raises awareness about ecological challenges, cultural heritage, and textile traditions but also fosters positive interactions with the local community. Artists, textile designers, and illustrators often engage in community outreach programs, workshops, and exhibitions, creating a positive impact and promoting environmental stewardship, cultural appreciation, and sustainable textile practices.
