We have been privileged to welcome an extraordinary group of artists to the Ajanta Ellora Arts Residency. Each has brought their own voice, vision, and energy, weaving it into the rich cultural fabric of this place. This showcase is our way of celebrating their time with us—moments of creation, exchange, and inspiration shaped by the timeless spirit of Ajanta and Ellora.

Beowulf Sheehan

ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE 2025

Beowulf Sheehan is a New-York based photographer of figures in the arts and humanities. To date, he's photographed better than 1,000 writers from more than 60 countries.  AUTHOR: The Portraits of Beowulf Sheehan, a collection of portraits of 200 writers from 35 countries with a foreword by Salman Rushdie, was published in 2018. THE AUTHOR PHOTO: Portrait Photographer Beowulf Sheehan on a Life Capturing Writers, a short film by Claire Ince and Ancil McKain, was an official selection of the 2020 Venice Institute of Contemporary Art Fine Arts Film Festival and the 2020 On Art Film Festival. His interview with Professional Photographer Magazine was published in January 2023. Beowulf Sheehan is the proud son of an immigrant and translator, grandson of a poet and photographer, and great-great-nephew of an author.

Luna Montenegro & Adrian Fisher

ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE 2024

Luna Montenegro and Adrian Fisher are poets and artists based in London, they collaborate in a fluid space of visual, physical and sonic research.

Their work investigates ideas of improvisation, participation, poetics, locality and social transformation exploring the boundaries of human and non-human existence.

As the collective ‘montenegrofisher’ they make performances, texts, videos, visual and sonic installations, images and curatorial projects worldwide.

Their work has been shown in the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) London, Southbank Centre, London, CCCB (Centro de Cultura Contemporánea) Barcelona, MAC (Museum of Contemporary Art) Santiago, Chile, Bibliothèque Nationale de France and The Venice Biennale, among many others. They have been selected for International art residencies in France, Mexico, Belgium, Italy, Chile, Norway, Switzerland and India. 

Their work has been published by Crater Press, London, Errant Bodies, Berlin, Intuitive Projects Press, London, Grapheme, Germany, Poem Atlas, London, Visible Binary, USA, Boiler House, UK, ESLA, English Studies in Latin America, El Rizo Robado, México, Río Grande Review, Texas, USA, Erotoplasty, South Korea, Splinter, UK, Tentacular, UK, diSONARE, Mexico, Alba Berlin, Germany, datableed, UK, Dostoyevsky Wannabe, Scotland and Tonic, Chile among other poetry and art journals. 

They seek ideas that foster a more supportive and sustainable world for all beings to share and thrive in.

Dilip Khanderao

Folk Artist | Marathwada, India

ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE 2024

Shri Dilip S. Khanderay, a celebrated cultural ambassador of Maharashtra from our very own city Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. He is dedicated to preserving and promoting the state’s rich artistic heritage. Founder of Shri Khanderay Kala Mandal, he has organized over 300 cultural programs and judged more than 150 classical and folk dance competitions, nurturing traditional art forms. His outreach extends to television, with 25+ programs bringing Maharashtra’s traditions to wider audiences. Through the Shivajirao Patil Khanderay Pratishthan, he annually honors contributors to social and cultural causes while championing grassroots talent and rural artists. His transformative efforts continue to shape Maharashtra’s cultural legacy.

Devi Ganguly

ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE 2023

Debdatta Ganguly aka Devi, is a visual artist and researcher who studied comparative literature from Jadavpur University, and printmaking at 

Visva Bharati. Her artworks are a juxtaposition of man, matter, life, and its ephemeral nature. Though her process is meditative, she believes in creating a sense of aura, even in the smallest drawing she makes. According to her, art has the spiritual quality of enchanting the viewer, with simply its presence

Pradeep Gupta 

Contemporary Dancer | Chhattisgarh, India

ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE 2023

A contemporary dancer and choreographer. He is the winner of the Prakriti Excellence in Contemporary Dance Award (PECDA 2022), and the choreographic competition, Festival 10 Sentidos, Valencia, Spain. 

He has held a scholarship at Goa Dance Residency for choreographic research and dance education. He has attended dance workshops supported by National de Diffusion Artistique- Paris, France. He trained at Terence Lewis Professional Training Institute, Mumbai in 2017. 

He was contracted by UK based artist Nathaniel Parchment to participate in his project researching on the Somatics Into Modern Dance. He is influenced by socio and environmental ideas, and embeds them in his choreographic interpretations. He has performed at many art festivals in India and abroad.

Madhu Raghavendra 

Poet | Guwahati, India

ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE 2023

An Indian poet, curator, and social development practitioner. He has authored four books of poetry, Make Me Some Love to Eat, Stick No Bills, Being Non-essential, and Going Home.
 

Madhu is the founder of Poetry Couture, a movement that has created free spaces for poetry in many cities of India, including the North East India region. He uses performance poetry as a tool to advocate human and environmental rights .

 

He collaborates with global artists to create cross disciplinary poetry experiences. He has participated in the 2022 PEN Emergency World Voices Congress of Writers at the United Nations Headquarters, New York. He is the curator for Ajanta Ellora Arts Residency, Maharashtra.
